Hello Zebras!

This page is for you! Why the Zebra?
Ehlers-Danlos syndromes (EDS) and hypermobility spectrum disorders (HSD) are genetic connective tissue disorders that can affect nearly every body system, often in interconnected and unexpected ways. Individuals living with these complex, multi-systemic conditions are frequently underdiagnosed and underserved.
Lived experience drives my passion for awareness, advocacy, and support of fellow Zebras. My journey with hypermobile EDS (hEDS) sparked a deep dive into research and a commitment to education, collaboration, and expanding access to EDS-knowledgeable care.
My specialty centers on bridging the gap between mental and physical health in treating and navigating these conditions. Continue reading to learn more, and follow @HypermobilityPsychotherapist, an account dedicated to education and resources.
Hypermobility & Mental Health
While EDS/HSD symptoms stem from physical causes, they can have a significant psychological impact. Psychotherapy can be part of a comprehensive approach that considers both the physiological and psychological aspects of these conditions. Along with receiving support while navigating unique challenges, individuals can gain a deeper understanding of the interaction between physical and emotional processes through psychoeducation. Distressing and traumatic experiences encountered along the journey can also be processed in therapy.
Navigating a siloed healthcare system can be especially challenging for individuals requiring multi-systemic care. Feedback commonly reported in my practice is that providers across specialties are unfamiliar with EDS/HSD and that having a psychotherapist who understands these conditions relieves the burden of educating the provider. Consulting and collaborating with other healthcare professionals is often part of the process.
My clinical work focuses on trauma, medical trauma, EDS, and the complex intersection of mental and physical health. I specialize in integrative somatic and Polyvagal-informed approaches, which work with the self-healing aspects of our biology to support nervous system regulation and lasting change.
Educational consultation is available for individuals, mental health professionals, and healthcare providers seeking to deepen their understanding of EDS/HSD and related conditions.
🌟 Honored to become the first EDS ECHO-trained provider in Louisiana, I am committed to growing a network of knowledgeable providers and expanding access to EDS-knowledgeable care. It has been a privilege to learn from leading experts through the Ehlers-Danlos Society's EDS ECHO Clinicians, Allied Health Professionals, Master Classes, and Nutrition programs. Members of the Crescent City Psychotherapy and Wellness team have also completed EDS ECHO Clinicians training, reflecting our practice's commitment to serving this community.
My commitment to improving access to EDS-knowledgeable care extends beyond clinical practice. I am currently pursuing a PhD in Change Leadership, with research focused on expanding access to EDS-knowledgeable care and advancing systems that improve patient experiences and outcomes.
My understanding of EDS/HSD and co-occurring conditions continues to evolve through ongoing professional development, clinical work, consultation, and research. Through educational programs and clinical consultation, I am committed to helping grow a network of providers who can better serve individuals living with EDS and related conditions.
