Embracing Healing and Learning: A Reflection on 2023

Reflecting on 2023, I am grateful for the healing that I was invited to be a part of and for knowledge gained along the way. To my teachers, colleagues, clients, consultees, and mentees, thank you for allowing me to learn with and from you!

The Ehlers-Danlos Society facilitates a great deal of education with leading experts. Through EDS ECHO and the Global Learning Conference, my understanding of EDS and related conditions continues to deepen.

Training that enriched my practice earlier this year focused on the anatomy and physiology of the fascial system and the neurology of pain. Advanced Bodyspotting and Movement Integration were introduced in the specialty course, From Freeze to Thaw: Unlocking Trauma in the Body with Brainspotting.

Most recently, the Integrative Somatic Trauma Therapy certification program provided an opportunity to learn from world renowned teachers and to integrate aspects of Somatic Experiencing, Hakomi Method, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, Applied Polyvagal Theory, and Internal Family Systems into my therapeutic framework of EMDR and Brainspotting.

Trauma, anxiety, chronic pain and complex conditions can disrupt our capacity to adapt and thrive. Somatic therapy can help to restore a sense of safety in the body while developing space to process bodily memory, work through unprocessed emotions, complete incomplete stress responses, and restore a healthy relationship to ourselves and the world around us.

As 2024 approaches, I look towards it in hopeful anticipation of all the healing and learning that awaits! May your transition into the new year be one of ease and peace. ✨
